Mr. Christian’s Drinks Allergen Information:
In accordance to the FSA guidelines on allergen management and Regulation 607/2009 EU Commission Directive 2003/89 which amended the main food labelling Directive 2000/13s The Food Labelling (Declarations of Allergens) (England) Regulations 2011/402 and further to the European Commission amended Directive 2000/13 with Directive 2007/68.
Currently, the rules for pre-packed foods establish a list of 14 food allergens, which have to be indicated by reference to the source allergen whenever they, or ingredients made from them, are used at any level in pre-packed foods, including alcoholic drinks. Mr. Christian’s recognise the following as allergens and have transferred the guidelines to our products. The list consists of; cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, molluscs, eggs, fish, peanuts, nuts, soybeans, milk, celery, mustard, sesame, lupin and sulphur dioxide at levels above 10mg/kg, or 10 mg/litre, expressed as SO2.
Some ingredients derived from the listed allergenic foods are so highly processed that they are no longer considered capable of triggering an adverse reaction and so are exempt from labelling. A list of these exemptions was published in EEC Directive 2007/68/EC in November 2007 and includes isinglass, derived from fish, which is used in the production of some wines, but does not require declaration.
In accordance with 2012/579 EU, any Mr. Christian’s product made from the 2012 vintage onward which contains or was made using one the 14 food allergens as detailed above has this fact indicated on the label.
All products containing more than 10 parts per million (ppm) of sulfur dioxide has affixed to the label “Contains sulphur dioxide” (or sulphites/sulfites)
Under the amending Regulation 579/2012, all products with a detectable residual level of greater than 0.25 mg/litre of the following fining agents which are viewed as an allergen, have affixed to the label, prefixed by “Contains”
‘Egg’, ‘egg protein’, ‘egg product’, ‘egg lysozyme’ or ‘egg albumin’
‘Milk’, ‘milk products’, ‘milk casein’ or ‘milk protein’
The remaining allergens are not used in the production of wine and good manufacturing practice (GMP) is employed, to ensure that no allergen would be present.
Production methods are defined by GMP, and we at Jeroboams responsibly source ingredients from reputable suppliers whose allergen status is known and who actively avoid introducing new allergens to site. Our suppliers regularly carry out HACCP analysis to ensure product safety and integrity.”
