About Us

Mr Christian’s has been the Portobello Market traders’ breakfast stop-off for many years, with tourists and visitors throughout the day. But most of all we pride ourselves in being a local shop that know its regulars and local residents.

Mr. Christian's was founded in September 1974 by Tim Dawson and Glynn Christian. In 1982 Glynn began his career as a BBC-TV cook on Pebble Mill at One and in 1983 began broadcasting three mornings a week on BBC-TV Breakfast Time. With Radio 2 broadcasts and book commissions added to his television cooking, Glynn withdrew from Mr. Christian's and Greg Scott, who had become manager, took over the business.

The shop was successfully run by Greg until 2003 when it became part of The Jeroboams Group.

Jeroboams

Jeroboams, London’s largest independent retail wine merchant with a portfolio of over 2,000 wines, fine wines and Champagnes was originally established in 1985. After Mr Christian’s became part of the Group a wine shop was opened next door at No 13 Elgin Crescent in October 2004, this allowed for a far greater range of wines than there had previously been space for in No 11, together with a large selection of Champagnes, select fine and rare whiskies and a fine wine cave towards the back of the shop.
